On Saturday, July 18th Bryant and I wanted to hike Mount Olympus. I hiked this hike last year

with my buddy Dan and it seriously kicked my butt! It was the beginning of getting in shape for all the other adventures I did last year :). So, I wanted to hike it again this year but I did a little better. We made sure we had our camel paks full of water and snacks and got to the trailhead around 7 on Saturday morning. This hike is a 3 mile hike with a 4200 ft ascent. It's like climbing stairs for 3 hours but coming back down isn't any better either. You really start to feel it in the knees. *Tip: DO NOT climb a steep mountain on the hottest day of the year!* Yeah. We did. It wasn't too hot going up because we were in the shadow of the mountain the whole way up. But coming back down...ugh! I took 3 liters of water in my camel pak and Bryant had 2, which he ran out of by the time he got to the top. It's a really pretty view from the top of the whole Salt Lake Valley :). We signed the

little log in the mailbox at the top and rested while we had some snacks before we headed back down the steep trail. We met a couple that had the biggest black great dane I've ever seen! It was extremely nice too! (Ever since that dog, Bryant wants one...). About halfway down the trail, we met up with them again and the dog was panting uncontrolably because it had no water and it was pretty hot by this time. I ended up giving some of my water to the dog and also to Bryant. Then ran out. We still had quite a ways to go before we got to the car and it was already over 100 degrees. I have never experienced heat stroke before but I think I was beginning to by the time we got to the bottom. I was starting to get slightly dizzy and I kept getting the chills really bad. Weird. But we finally made it to the car and stopped at a gas station for some water. That hike is exhausting so if anyone ever plans on doing it, go super early and preferably on a cooler day :).
